Michael Ward-Bergeman’s Gig365

January 5, 2011

As I edit some mp3s recorded during an incredible trip to New Orleans, I thought I’d plug my Groanbox bandmate, Michael Ward-Bergeman‘s 2011 tour of epic proportions, what he calls Gig365. The goal – to play one gig (defined as lasting at least 35 minutes and featuring at least one audience member!) a day from January 1st to December 31st, 2011 in a variety of venues ranging from concert halls, music clubs, pubs, bars, schools, hospitals, prisons, malls, etc.

Michael is the most well-rounded musician I know – a virtuosic accordionist, piano player, and percussionist who can hold his own in pubs and prisons just as easily as in large concert halls and on film soundtracks. He is buds with the Taraf de Haidouks, has worked with Francis Ford Coppola, studies percussion from India, Brazil and elsewhere, tours around the world with Osvaldo Golijov‘s new classical music pieces, studied throat singing with Huun-Huur-Tu, and seamlessly bounces between all his diverse musical interests. A world musician in the most literal sense.
Michael’s journey began in Venezuela, will soon take him to the States, and then from there to Spain, the UK, and parts in between. I will be joining up with him in April and perhaps later as well, and am grateful to be even remotely part of the adventure!

If you want to keep abreast of Michael’s whirlwind tour, go to his gig365 facebook page and click “like” or just check out his blog.

That Uri Geller guy is spooky.URI GELLER JUST WON’T STOP TALKING ABOUT MICHAEL! was one of the recommended related links after your blog Cory. And exactly where was I when I heard that Michael (that is Jackson just to save any confusion) had died? Why right in the middle of a Groanbox gig. Now how did Mr Geller know that?
